13. Toxic Substances, Hazardous Materials and Weapons CCF Handbook, Section 3.2 (13-02)

The facilitys storage of harmful items including cleaning supplies, flammable products, and poisonous, toxic and hazardous materials allowed access by children in care. CCF Handbook, Section 3.2, B Comments: At the time of inspection, the Licensing specialist observed the storage closet near the front door with toxic and hazardous material stored. The storage closet door was closed but unable to lock. The specialist observed a rake, pesticides stored on the floor, a staffs personal bag with medication in pill bottles on a low shelf as well as disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer also stored low accessible to children in care. The provider immediately had staff remove the rake and pesticides as well as cleaning products and disinfectants higher on the shelf stored out of reach of children at time of inspection. The facility failed to post the room capacity in each room. CCF Handbook, Section 3.4.1, A Comments: At the time of inspection, the Licensing specialist observed in the first classroom of three year old children no capacity was posted in the room. The floor mats available for children in care were not covered with an impermeable surface. CCF Handbook, Section 3.6.1, D Comments: At the time of inspection, the Licensing specialist observed a childs sleeping mat that was torn exposing the foam cushion causing it to not be impermeable in the three year old classroom. Child care personnel administering medication did not have documentation of education on proper administration procedures. CCF Handbook, Section 6.5, I Comments: At the time of inspection, the Licensing specialist observed the medication for a child in care of Albuterol inhaler that was placed in a Ziplock bag stored the use of a child in care. The specialist observed that there was no documented training on file of education on proper administration procedures for administering medication. TA was provided to ensure that the training is documented on file for child care personnel who may administer the medication by the due date. The Florida Certificate of immunization was not acceptable in that: [ The form was not current (expired)]. CCF Handbook, Section 7.1 Comments: At the time of inspection, Licensing Specialist determined that the child listed on the supplemental had expired immunization forms on file. Technical assistance was given to the provider to obtain a current form from the parent/guardian prior to the due date. Additional technical assistance was given regarding FL shots. The provider was given the link to their website and how to register to view FL shot records. The link given was: www.flshotsusers.com and the provider was reminded to go to the bottom of page under schools & licensed child care providers to register.
