Indoor play areas in the home were not safe or in good repair. General Requirements [SR] Comments: The indoor classroom space/ play space was found to be in need of repairs. Technical assistance was provided regarding repairing the baseboard and door frame around the exit door, repairing the hole around the electrical outlet, painting the affected areas, re-caulking the walls, organizing and adding additional learning materials for centers, toys, and adding more books to the bookshelf. 7.7(G), Handbook: If a home has a swimming pool and/or spa, it shall be maintained by using chlorine or other suitable chemicals. Water in swimming pools or spas must be maintained at all times to ensure visibility to the bottom. The home's swimming pool was not maintained by the use of chlorine or other suitable chemicals. General Requirements [SR] Comments: The homes swimming pool was not maintained by the use of chlorine or other suitable chemicals. The home provider stated that the pool water is discolored because the pool pump is broken and the water is not being properly filtered. The provider presented a receipt showing that the pool is cleaned weekly; however, due to the broken pool pump, the water remains discolored. 7.6(F) and (G), Handbook: Fencing, including gates, must be continuous, and shall not have opening or gaps larger than 3 1/2 inches that would allow children to exit the outdoor play area. The bottom or base of the fence must remain at ground level and free from erosion or buildup to prevent inside or outside access by children or animals. The fence, decking and gates must be constructed to discourage climbing. The fence was not in compliance in that [see below]. Sec. 7-69(c)(1-5), Ordinance: Any vehicle used to transport children must have a child safety alarm device installed. The alarm device must be periodically tested and properly maintained in working order at all times. The alarm device must be designed to automatically activate when the vehicles ignition is turned on. Alarm devices that are activated manually are prohibited. The alarm device must be designed so that the vehicle horn, siren, or other type of audible alarm will sound within one minute if the driver, or a family child care home staff member, does not go to the rear or back seat of the vehicle, or, in the case of a passenger van, does not open the side entry door of the vehicle, to manually shut off the alarm prior to leaving the vehicle. The alarm must be audible from a distance of 500 feet from the vehicle. The alarm device must be installed so that the driver, or a family child care home staff member, is able to observe the rearmost seats of the vehicle and reach the switch that turns off the alarm prior to leaving the vehicle. The driver, or a family child care home staff member, must physically inspect each seat before turning off the alarm and leaving the vehicle. The alarm device must be installed by a certified technician or mechanic employed by an electronics or automotive business in accordance with the device manufacturers recommendations. The child safety alarm installed on the providers vehicle(s) did not meet all requirements in that [see details below]. The provider needs to make the necessary adjustments to ensure that the child safety alarm device meets all of the above requirements. The vehicle cannot be used to transport children until such time as the required alarm is installed and complies with the requirements. General Requirements [SR] Comments: During today's inspection the following was observed in need of repair: -The wooden gate leading to the front yard was observed open and without a lock or ability to close as the latch was broken. -The wooden gate leading to the pool was observed open and the locking mechanism was inoperable. -A pole on the fence that encloses the pool was observed leaning inward and unattached to the ground. -The wooden fence had holes, sharp edges, and missing screws near the base of the fence throughout the playground. -The outside table had holes and jagged edges on all corners. -The playground area had debris and trash throughout the play area. -Exposed pipes on playground with standing water needs to have a barrier and water cleared out 13. 2.4.4(A), Handbook: All vehicles regularly used to transport children must be inspected annually by a mechanic to ensure that they are in proper working order.Documentation by the mechanic must be maintained in the vehicle.There was no documentation of an annual mechanical inspection. Comments: The operator did not have a record of the vehicle's inspection/vehicle insurance and registration, and the vehicle fire extinguisher was tagged March 2023. She stated that she is not currently transporting children. At the time of arrival, the operator was gathering the children near the door and she stated that they were getting ready to go to the park. We inquired about how the children were to be transported to the park to which she responded that a friend/neighbor would take them because her van is not working at the moment. The operator was reminded that all vehicles used to transport children must be approved for transportation and meet minimum standard requirements. She was advised that the van will be inspected at the revisit inspection on 10/31/2024 to ensure all transportation standards are in compliance.
