Due to the aggressive behavior of Child #1 who was observed to be throwing furniture and lashing out physically and verbally, in an effort to prevent injury to the child themselves, other children and staff, Staff #1 performed a "calming hug" with Child #1, which restricted the child's movement. Requirement: A facility person may not restrain a child by using bonds, ties or straps to restrict a child's movement or by enclosing the child in a confined space, closet or locked room. The prohibition against restraining a child does not apply to the use of adaptive equipment prescribed for a child with special needs. Correction: Being that there is a rule and regulation stating that we are not allowed to restrict a child's movement in any way, I have talked to Faculty Person #1 about what we could have done differently. [We] have developed a plan to better help the situation should it ever occur again.
