13. Toxic Substances, Hazardous Materials and Weapons CCF Handbook, Section 3.2 (13-02)

The facilitys storage of harmful items including cleaning supplies, flammable products, and poisonous, toxic and hazardous materials allowed access by children in care. CCF Handbook, Section 3.2, B Physical Environment [SR] Comments: Licensing specialist (LS)observed a bottle of hand sanitizer in the 3 & 4 year olds room labeled keep out of reach of children on a shelf withing the reach of children. The LS also observed a can of shaving cream in the 2 year olds room labeled keep out of reach of children on a shelf withing the reach of children. (Pictures were taken). Technical Assistance (TA) was given to the director and staff by the Licensing specialist explaining that these items must always be inaccessible and out of a childs reach. Child/ren were placed in a crib, playpen, play yard or other sleeping and napping bedding with items that could pose a strangulation or suffocation risk. CCF Handbook, Section 3.6.4, A Physical Environment [SR] Comments: Two infants were observed sleeping in cribs in the infant room with bibs on their neck. Licensing Specialist (LS) provided TA to the teachers and director responsible in reference to the this. Bibs were removed at time of inspection placing this facility back in compliance. Bottles and/or sippy cups brought from home were not labeled with childs first and last name. CCF Handbook, Section 3.9.5, B (Section 2.1 Health and Safety, Page 3) Food and Nutrition [SR] Comments: Licensing specialist observed in the two-year-old classroom sippy cups brought from home that were not labeled or only had a first name. The staff and director were provided TA by the licensing specialist on the requirement for last and first names on cups and bottles brought from home. The staff responsible then correctly labeled the cups, thus this regulation is marked back into compliance. Per director, bottles are prepared in the kitchen, SANITATION AND EQUIPMENT 29.
