17. Outdoor Play Area/Fencing CCF Handbook, Section 3.5 (17-02)

The facility's outdoor play area contained litter, nails, glass or other hazards that posed a threat to the health, safety or well-being of the children. CCF Handbook, Section 3.5, A Physical Environment [SR] Comments: At the time of inspection, the LS observed a parachute hanging from the fence. When the parachute was moved, exposed nails points were noted in the fenced area. Other sections of the fencing also contained exposed nail heads. Portions of the black chain-link fence did not meet the ground, creating a potential risk of a child exiting the licensed area. The LS also observed a tricycle that was missing the ends on the handlebars. This creates a playground hazard. Additionally, the LS observed openings in the fencing that exceeded 3 inches in width. The black chain-link fence near the entry/exit was also observed to have openings greater than 3 inches. Technical Assistance was provided regarding the gaps/spacing in the fence. 3.5 Outdoor Play Area A. The outdoor play area must be clean and free from litter, nails, glass and other hazards. The pink tricycle was removed from the playground and per the provider, a maintenance request was placed for the handyman to repair needed areas. 24. Food Preparation Area CCF Handbook, Section 3.9 (24-18)

Stored food was not consumed or discarded on or before the expiration date listed by the manufacturer. CCF Handbook, Section 3.9.2, B Food and Nutrition [SR] Comments: At the time of inspection, the LS observed expired Lactaid milk, 1% milk and eggs. 3.9.2 Food Storage Proper storage of food is essential to prevent food contamination, as well as, insect and rodent infestation. Correct handling and storage of all food is a key component in preventing food-borne illnesses. To prevent bacteria growth, cold food must be kept at or below 41 degrees Fahrenheit and hot foods at or above 135 degrees Fahrenheit. Facilities choosing to prepare food must have a designated space for food storage within the designated food preparation area or in a room not calculated as part of indoor floor space, and in an area not used for diapering. Off-site food storage is permissible only if the site of storage is a licensed child care facility under the same ownership that includes a food preparation area that meets licensing standards. B. Stored food must be consumed or discarded on or before the expiration dates listed by the manufacturer.
