CCF Handbook, Section 3.2, B (Section 2.1 Health and Safety, Page 3) Physical Environment [SR] Comments: Licensing Specialist observed cleaning supplies stored at children's reach in the VPK classroom/bathroom cubby. Licensing Specialist also observed Prescription/ Non-Prescription Medications/Ointments in the reach of children in the 2-year-old classroom, stored in a clear bin on the bottom of the cubbies located in the bathroom area. This was resolved immediately when the provider stored the cleaning supplies and medications up high, out of the reach of children. Action Plan: Provider will ensure to do a walkthrough of the classrooms before allowing children to use the rooms. 3.2 Toxic/Hazardous Material/Firearms/Weapons B. All potentially harmful items, including cleaning supplies, flammable products, poisonous, toxic, and hazardous materials, must be labeled and used according to manufacturers recommendation. These items, as well as knives, sharp tools, and other potentially dangerous hazards, must be stored in a locked area or must be inaccessible and out of a childs reach at all times. 14.    A prescription or non-prescription medication, specifically [Desitin Diaper Ointment], was dispensed without written authorization from the custodial parent or legal guardian. CCF Handbook, Section 6.5, A and K (Section 2.1 Health and Safety, Page 3) Health Requirements [SR] Comments: Licensing Specialist observed 3 Desitin Diaper ointments for 3 children in the 2 yr. old classroom in which childcare personnel (P.S.), was overseeing, the diaper ointment was dispensed without written authorization from the custodial parent or legal guardian. This was resolved immediately when the childcare personnel in the classroom removed the ointment from the classroom, notified the parents that a written consent was needed and had them email it or fax it back. Action Plan: Childcare personnel will not accept non-prescription or prescription medication without a parental consent form signed. Copies of the permission slip will be kept in the classroom for teacher's access. 6.5 Medication Child care programs are not required to give medication; however, if a program chooses to do so, it must comply with the following requirements: A. The child care program must have written authorization from the custodial parent or legal guardian to give prescription and non- prescription medications. This authorization must be dated and signed by the custodial parent or legal guardian and contain the childs name; the name of the medication to be given; and date, time and amount of the correct dosage to be given. Prescription and non- prescription medications that are used on an as needed basis require the parent/ legal guardian to provide additional documentation on the authorization form to describe symptoms that would require the medication to be given. The child care provider must never administer a medication that is prescribed for one child to another child. K. Use of diaper creams and insect repellant may only be utilized with written permission from parents/guardians. Manufacturer instructions must be followed.
