    11. Child Discipline CCF Handbook, Section 2.8 (11-03)

Child care personnel did not comply with the facility's written disciplinary and expulsion policies. CCF Handbook, Section 2.8, B General Requirements [SR] Comments: Licensing Specialist determined through testimony from one staff member that timeout is utilized as a form of discipline in the 1 year old classroom. The facilitys discipline policy states: Provide renewal time. When a child is too upset to talk or listen, it may be necessary to remove the child from the situation for a period of no more than 2 minutes. The teachers stay with the child to discuss what happened and to help the child regain composure. However, the staff member stated to the Licensing Specialist that she will place the child in a highchair with toys for 5 to 10 minutes and she is with the child the whole time. Licensing Specialist gave technical assistance from the Child Care Facility Handbook: 2.8 Child Discipline B. The child care facility operators, employees, and volunteers must comply with written disciplinary and expulsion policies. Corrective Action: All staff members are to sign documentation stating that they understand and will maintain the facilitys written discipline & expulsion policy. Provider is to submit documentation to Licensing Specialist via e-mail once completed. PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT 12. Facility Environment CCF Handbook, Section 3.1 Not Monitored 13.
