Scissors, kitchen knives and batteries were observed to be in the drawer, accessible to children. Requirement: Conditions at the facility may not pose a threat to the health or safety of the children. Correction: Immediately upon being made aware of the issue, I removed all hazardous items from the accessible drawers and relocated them to secured, out-of-reach storage areas.    In the downstairs main room, 6 children were observed in care. The downstairs main room has a capacity for 4 children. The room was observed to be over capacity by 2 children. Requirement: Indoor child care space is measured within permanent stationary partitions or walls. The allowable number of children in a space is determined by dividing the total square feet in a space by 40. The capacity established for an indoor space may not be exceeded. Correction: I want to assure you that I take this seriously and have already taken steps to ensure this doesn't happen again. You mentioned that the kitchen could potentially be licensed to accommodate additional children. I am moving forward with preparing that area to submit for approval, which will help alleviate overcrowding in the downstairs room. Inspection: Renewal.    In the upstairs room over the downstairs bathroom, a water spot was observed on the ceiling along with peeling/bubbling pieces of the ceiling.. Requirement: Floors, walls, ceilings and other surfaces, including the facility's outdoor play space surfaces shall be kept clean, in good repair and free from visible hazards. Correction: Immediate corrective actions have been taken to address the concerns noted during inspection. In the upstairs room over the downstairs bathroom, the water-damaged ceiling area showing signs of bubbling and peeling was patched and repaired. A sealant was applied to help prevent future moisture intrusion. The primary source of moisture has also been evaluated In addition to the ceiling repair, all cobwebs and accumulated dust were removed from the ceilings, walls, windowsills, and blinds in both upstairs rooms and the stairwell hallway. The split floor trim with exposed nails in the same upstairs room was also repaired---exposed nails were secured, and the damaged trim was repaired. Inspection: Renewal.    During nap time, children were observed laying on mats that were not spaced at least 2 feet apart. Requirement: At least 2 feet of space is required on three sides of a bed, cot, crib or other rest equipment while the equipment is in use. Correction: The room where children were napping is a smaller space, and it is very difficult to meet the 2-foot spacing requirement without adjusting the current layout. To correct this issue: I am in the process of rearranging furniture in the room to create more usable floor space so cots can be properly spaced at nap time. In addition, I am actively working to get the kitchen area licensed for additional children, which will allow more flexibility in group arrangements and prevent the need to use the smaller space for naps with more than two children. Normally, this room is only used for nap time with no more than two children, which allows us to meet spacing requirements without concerns.    Fire detection testing was observed to be completed greater than 30 days apart on the following occasions: 7/5/24-8/27/24, and 9/26/24-10/30/24, both of which were done greater than 30 days apart. Requirement: Fire detection devices or systems must be in compliance with standards established under section 1016(c) of the act (62 P.S. § 1016(c)). The primary staff person or designated staff person who is responsible for compliance with this chapter shall ensure the requirements in subsection (a) are met. Correction: I have reviewed our 2024 fire safety logs and acknowledged the gaps in our testing schedule. To correct this issue: I have implemented a recurring calendar reminder to ensure that fire detection tests are performed and documented on a consistent every 30-day schedule even when closed or no children in care.
