    04. Supervision CCF Handbook, Section 2.4 (04-01)

Supervision of children in the [Three-year-old] group was inadequate in that [the teacher left two children unattened without proper supervision by staff]. CCF Handbook, Section 2.4 General Requirements [SR] Comments: Licensing Specialist observed inadequate supervision in the three-year-old classroom. There were 12 children present with two staff. The classroom is joined together by two double doors. Licensing Specialist observed 10 children playing on the floor with one staff in room A and two children at the table with one staff in room B. During the walkthrough of the classroom A, Licensing Specialist observed the two children playing in classroom B with no teacher or supervision. The teacher had left the room to cover another classroom across the hall, to allow the other teacher to take out the trash to the dumpster. Teacher in classroom A was not aware or advised that teacher in classroom B was leaving and the two were not properly supervised in classroom B. Technical assistance provided from the CCF Handbook: 2.4 Supervision 2.4.1 General Supervision Requirements A. Child care personnel must position themselves in the outdoor play area so that all children can be observed and directly supervised. B. Child care personnel must be assigned to provide direct supervision to a specific group of children and be with that group of children at all times. Children must never be left without child care personnel supervision inside or outside the facility, in a vehicle, or at a field trip location. Corrective Action: Director moved the two children left alone on the one side of the classroom and joined them with the other children and staff. Director made teacher aware of the other teacher's absence. The move of the children brought this standard into compliance. Director advised Licensing Specialist that she is having a meeting with staff to discuss supervision and clean up procedures. 05. Transportation CCF Handbook, Section 2.5 Not Monitored 06.
