    Water safety (3270.31(e)(4)(iv))

During renewal inspection certification rep reviewed staff files. Staff 1,2,3,4,5,6 and 7 had water safety training in their file but it is not an acceptable training, and it wasn't completed by a lifeguard. Requirement: Competence in water safety instruction is demonstrated by the completion of basic instruction in water safety from a certified lifeguard. Correction: Prior to the inspection, staff completed American Red Cross Water Safety Training online, and, as part of our long-standing practice, all staff were also trained in water safety by our in-house certified lifeguard before any swimming activities began. The inspection occurred prior to any children participating in swimming. To address the inspector's concern regarding the acceptability of online training, we have formally designated the in-person lifeguard-led training as the required staff preparation prior to water activities. Inspection: Renewal. Source: PA DHS COMPASS provider search (compass.dhs.pa.gov).
