Evidence of violation: A concern was submitted that a wooden chair with a strap was being used to restrain children with no supervision in the hallway. The chair was located after an inspection of the center. After an interview was completed asking for more information regarding the use of the chair, it was determined that the chair had been used to restrain children with no supervision by staff members. The chair was removed from the center by the Licensing Specialist. Method of correction: Demonstrate developmentally appropriate discipline techniques that do not involve punishment of children. Techniques may include, but are not limited to, redirection, staff-supervised separation from the problematic situation, communicating with the child about the situation, reinforcing appropriate behavior, etc. to all staff members. Provide the resources and documentation of what was demonstrated to all staff members along with their signatures verifying they have received this information. After an investigation including interviews was conducted, it was determined that rough handling had occurred. Method of correction: All staff members must be orientated on how to appropriately handle, guide or lead children of all ages per rule 75-03-10-23 . A review of the discipline & mandated reporting policy and procedures must be reviewed with all staff members. A copy of what was reviewed or what training was presented must be submitted to Licensing Specialist along with the signatures of all staff members acknowledging they received the information. The statewide Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting line phone number (1-833-958-3500) must be added to the Parent and Staff Handbooks and provide updated copies to the Licensing Specialist, parents of enrolled children and staff members.
