Correction order — Rule(s) 75-03-10-23(10) - A staff member or any other adult in or at the child care center may not kick, punch, spank, shake, pinch, bite, roughly handle, strike, mechanically restrain, or physically maltreat a child.
Evidence of violation: During an investigation it was noted a staff member had rough handled a child causing an injury to the child. Method of correction: The center shall submit an agenda and a date to conduct a staff meeting to review and discuss appropriate methods of guiding and disciplining children, including strategies for responding to children who are exhibiting challenging, disruptive, or noncompliant behaviors. During the meeting, management shall review with staff the appropriate methods for safely picking up, holding, and moving a child. Staff shall also review the center's discipline policy and the requirements regarding appropriate behavior guidance. Educational resources and literature on positive behavior guidance techniques shall be provided to staff to support the implementation of appropriate discipline practices. Documentation of the staff meeting, including the date, attendees, and topics discussed, shall be maintained by the center. Fiscal sanction if not corrected: $25 per day.
