During the classroom observations one child was observed in the bathroom. The child was not immediately encouraged to wash hands. Corrective action: The director printed off 7.11 (10) highlighted handwashing procedures and discussed with all of the staff directly. I also had them all sign a copy and keep a copy for reference. We went over, when handwashing needs to occur for both children and staff.. Regulation: The licensee must ensure that educators and children wash their hands with liquid soap and running water, using friction, in accordance with DPH guidelines. Hands must be dried with individual or disposable towels or automatic hand blow-dryers. The use of common towels is prohibited. During the visit an educators purse was on a shelf by the door in the butterfly room and it was accessible to children. There was a loose extension cord under an easel in the rockstar room. Corrective action: Staff will be reminded of our policy to not leave any belongings accessible to children.. Regulation: All play equipment, fences and structures must be free of entrapment hazards., The licensee must ensure that the physical facilities are safe, clean, in good repair and free from hazards and clutter. The licensee must monitor the environment daily to identify and remove or repair any hazards that may cause injury to children. Exits and evacuation routes must be kept clear of obstructions., Building Inspection. Every program that is not located in a residence and every program that has a licensed capacity of more than 10 children must provide a certificate of inspection from the Department of Public Safety or the local building inspector certifying that the facility complies with the State Building Code (780 CMR). During the visit, the pea stone did not measure to 9 inches therefore the depth of impact absorbing material was not met. Corrective action: We will work on creating a edgeway to help keep the stone at 9 inches, and we will refill our stones.. Regulation: Playground Safety. The use zones under and around swings, slides, and climbing structures must be covered with an adequate depth of an impact absorbing material, in accordance with EEC policy. During the visit it was observed that an educator was cleaning a table then failed to wash their hands after that task. Corrective action: Educators have been reminded of our handwashing policy.. There was medication missing for a child with an allergy, the plan called for an EpiPen and Cetirizine, the Cetirizine was not in the first aid bag with the EpiPen. Corrective action: The family has been contacted, and Cetirizine will be brought in.. During the visit medication was reviewed and in one room there was a child who requires an inhaler with an aero chamber, the inhaler did not have the original box or prescription label. Corrective action: The child's parent has been contacted to bring in inhaler.. Regulation: Unless otherwise specified in a child’s individual health care plan, the educator must store all medications out of the reach of children and under proper conditions for sanitation, preservation, security and safety during the time the children are in care and during the transportation of children., All prescription medications must be in the containers in which they were originally dispensed and with their original labels affixed.
