Questions to ask on a tour

Chosen for this facility's inspection history and profile — bring them along on your visit.

  1. Ask how they keep enrollment, immunization, and emergency-contact records current - their state findings include documentation lapses
  2. This is a small program - ask about backup care arrangements when the provider is ill or away
  3. They accept child care subsidies - ask what the enrollment process looks like and whether there is a waitlist for subsidized spots
  4. Ask about teacher-to-child ratios and how supervision is maintained through the day

The back door exit must have a clear pathway from the back door to the front of the home. Both exits must be kept clear of snow etc. Corrective action: I have 3 exits in my home, front door that leads to the street, side door that leads to the driveway and the back door which has only one exit out of the yard, which also leads to the same exit as the side door. The side and front door porch & driveway has always been cleared of ice and snow as well as the sidewalk and walkway which are the two exits that are used for childcare and emergency which leads to two separate sides of the house. All exits front, side and back all lead to front of house, in the 16 years of childcare i have never shovel a path through the back yard which has no walkway or been told i had to and all visits are in the winter. I will continue to keep snow and ice cleared away from the backdoor, also i was under impression that i only needed to have two emergency exits out of the home which are the two that are used. the back exit is not used because it leads to the same exit as the side door. If I'm required to have three exits or use three exit please inform me of this and i will follow all recommendations without hesitation.. Regulation: The licensee must ensure that the physical facilities are safe, clean, in good repair and free from hazards and clutter. The licensee must monitor the environment daily to identify and remove or repair any hazards that may cause injury to children. Exits and evacuation routes must be kept clear of obstructions.
