   On the day of the visit the children in P-2 were asked to site at the tables and wait, for an extended period of time, for lunch to be served. Corrective action: Program Director spoke with the teacher in P-2 about not having children sitting and waiting for next activity to start. Teacher was provided some ideas as to what to do with the children during transitions such as Story time, songs or movement activities. Children are NOT to be sitting and waiting for long periods of time.. Regulation: Transitions Between Activities. Transitions must be completed in a safe, timely, predictable and unhurried manner.    7.07(13)(d), 7.07(01), 7.07(02), 7.07(10) — Physical Facility - Indoors

   On the day of the visit there were shelving units in P-1 that were not secured and could pose a danger to children. Corrective action: All furniture has been bolted in the P -1 classroom.. Regulation: All play equipment, fences and structures must be free of entrapment hazards., The licensee must ensure that the physical facilities are safe, clean, in good repair and free from hazards and clutter. The licensee must monitor the environment daily to identify and remove or repair any hazards that may cause injury to children. Exits and evacuation routes must be kept clear of obstructions., Building Inspection. Every program that is not located in a residence and every program that has a licensed capacity of more than 10 children must provide a certificate of inspection from the Department of Public Safety or the local building inspector certifying that the facility complies with the State Building Code (780 CMR).    7.07(07)(d), 7.07(07)(e), 7.07(10), 7.07(13)(d) — Physical Facility - Outdoors

   A visual inspection of the playground revealed the rubber surfacing is deteriorating in some areas and could pose a tripping hazard for children. Corrective action: We are in the process of getting a few quotes so we can get some funders to support the cost. We are looking at a goal date of September 2026. We are also setting up an indoor gym in one of the classrooms to provide a space for the children to stretch and exercise.. Regulation: The outdoor play area must be free from hazards including but not limited to: a busy street, a parking lot, poisonous plants, water hazards, debris, broken glass, chipping, peeling or flaking paint, dangerous machinery or tools, and weather-related and environmental hazards or small objects that could present a choking hazard to young children. Any such hazard must be removed or fenced by a sturdy, permanently installed barrier which is at least four feet high or otherwise protected or removed, as appropriate., If the outdoor play space is located on a roof, it must be protected by a barrier at least seven feet high, which cannot be climbed by children., Indoor Space.    At least three children with chronic medical conditions did not have IHCPs on file on the day of the visit. Corrective action: Office staff has updated the children's files and completed all forms needed to bring files up to date.. Regulation: Individual Health Care Plans The licensee must maintain as part of a child’s record, an individual health care plan for each child with a chronic medical condition, which has been diagnosed by a licensed health care practitioner. The plan must describe the chronic condition, its symptoms, any medical treatment that may be necessary while the child is in care, the potential side effects of that treatment, and the potential consequences to the child’s health if the treatment is not administered.    The attendance record in P-2 did not include two children who were present on the day of the visit. Corrective action: The NNCC Childcare have been instructed to check their attendance before the start of their day and periodically throughout the day. The Staff was informed of the importance (Safety wise) of having the correct number of children in their care at all times. The staff is to match their sign in attendance with their Procare attendance.. Regulation: daily attendance records indicating each child’s attendance, including arrival and departure times;, The licensee must maintain sufficient numbers of qualified staff to promote the health, safety, growth and development of each child.
