The bedding available for children in care was not sanitary. FDCH/LFCCH Handbook, Section 7.8, A Health Requirements [SR] Comments: During the time of inspection, Licensing Specialist observed linens & blankets being stored in the shower of the bathroom. Licensing Specialist observed Provider remove the linens and blankets from the bathroom. This standard was brought back into compliance during the time of inspection. FDCH/LFCCH Handbook, section 7.8 Appropriate, Safe and Sanitary Bedding A. A home must include a designated area where each child can sit quietly or lie down to rest or nap. Each child in care must be provided safe and sanitary bedding to be used when napping or sleeping. Linens must be washed at least once a week and more often if soiled or dirty. All bedding and linens must be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized at least once a week and before use by another child. Bedding and linens, when not in use, must be stored in a sanitary manner which prevents the spread of germs or lice from other linens. Meals and snacks supplied by the operator were not of a quantity and/or quality to meet the daily nutritional needs of the children. FDCH/LFCCH Handbook, 7.14, A Health Requirements [SR] Comments: During the time of inspection, Licensing Specialist observed the children during lunch. The children were served one chicken nugget, a small spoon full of green beans, tator tots and milk. The Provider accidently dropped one childs plate on the floor. She did not have any additional food prepared to replace the meal. The Provider had to cook the child more food. The child had to wait 15 more minutes before she could have lunch. Licensing Specialist observed that the quantity of the meal was not adequate to meet the needs of the children. FDCH/LFCCH Handbook, section 7.14 Food and Nutrition A. Handling of food in a safe and careful manner prevents the spread of bacteria, viruses and fungi. Outbreaks of foodborne illnesses have occurred in many settings, including child care facilities. Children are at a higher risk for contracting food-borne illness, as their bodies are in the process of growing, developing, and building adequate immune systems to fight illness. While some food-borne illnesses originate at farms or food manufacturing plants, the majority are the result of poor food handling practices. Child care personnel, while working in the food preparation area, must use clean disposable gloves, utensils, or similar items in the food preparation area to prevent contact with ready-to-eat foods. If the operator chooses to supply food, the operator shall provide nutritious meals and snacks of a quantity and quality to meet the daily nutritional needs of the children. FDCH/LFCCH Handbook, Section 7.6, A (Section 2.1 Health and Safety, Page 3) Health Requirements [SR] Comments: During the time of inspection Licensing Specialist observed a water hose unraveled on the ground in the children's outdoor play area which could cause a tripping hazard. Licensing Specialist observed ground stakes, and Clorox dish soap in the outdoor play area. Licensing Specialist observed provider remove the water hose, ground stakes and Clorox dish soap and place them in an outside gated area that the children do not have access to. A prescription or non-prescription medication, specifically [diaper creme and orajel], was dispensed without written authorization from the custodial parent or legal guardian. FDCH/LFCCH Handbook, Section 7.24, A and L (Section 2.1 Health and Safety, Page 3) Health Requirements [SR] Comments: During the time of inspection, Licensing Specialist observed several tubes of diaper cream and a box of Orajel without parent authorization. Provider advised Licensing Specialist that parents usually bring diaper cream for their children when they need it, but she does not get written authorization from them. Provider advised that she does not have any children in care that use the diaper cream, so she would get rid of it. Provider stated moving forward she will have parents fill out authorization forms for non-prescription medication. Licensing Specialist observed the authorization forms that Provider will use to dispense medication to the children in care. FDCH/LFCCH Handbook, section 7.24 Medication A. The operator must have written authorization from the custodial parent or legal guardian to dispense prescription and non-prescription medications. This authorization must be dated and signed by the custodial parent or legal guardian and must contain the childs name; the name of the medication to be dispensed; and the date, time and amount of dosage to be given. This record shall be initialed or signed by the child care personnel who gave the medication. Prescription and non-prescription medications that are used on an as needed basis require the parent/ legal guardian to provide additional documentation on the authorization form to describe symptoms that would require the medication to be given. FDCH/LFCCH Handbook, Section 7.24, H (Section 2.1 Health and Safety, Page 3) Health Requirements [SR] Comments: During the time of inspection, Licensing Specialist observed diaper cream, baby Orajel, an epi pen and inhaler being stored in unlocked cubbies in the play area which were accessible to the children in care. The Provider advised that the children the medication belonged to are no longer enrolled, and she would contact the parents to return the epi pen and inhaler. Licensing Specialist observed Provider discard of diaper cream and Orejel and place epi pen and inhaler in a cubby out of reach of children and locked it for extra precaution.
