A medication, [Epi pen], brought to the center for administration, was not in its original container. CCF Handbook, Section 6.5, C Comments: During the inspection, LS observed that a students EpiPen was stored in a Ziploc bag labeled with the students name; however, the medication was not maintained in its original packaging. Additionally, the EpiPen itself did not contain the students name, and the expiration date could not be verified. Therefore, LS was unable to confirm that the medication was properly labeled and current. Child care programs are not required to give medication; however, if a program chooses to do so, it must comply with the following requirements: Prescription and non-prescription medication brought to the child care facility by the custodial parent or legal guardian must be in the original container. Prescription medication must have a label stating the name and contact information of the physician and/or pharmacy, childs name, name of the medication, and medication directions. All prescription and non-prescription medication must be dispensed according to written directions on the prescription label or printed manufacturers label and maintained at the appropriate temperature.
